In honor of Maple Syrup Sunday here in Maine last week, I thought I would try maple syrup in my cookies. The combination of the maple syrup, pecans in a shortbread cookie was very alluring. This being a first time effort for this cookie, I have added comments and suggestions for the next time.

Maple Glazed Pecan Button Cookies>

Cream
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3 oz Cabot butter (3/8cup)
Add
3 oz canola oil (3/8cup)
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 t maple flavoring
1 large egg
1/4 cup pure maple syrup
1 t pure vanilla
2 cups (toasted) chopped medium pecans bits

Mix
2-1/2 cups unbleached all purpose flour
1/2 t salt
1/4 t b. soda
1/4 t b powder

Chill -Slice – Bake – Glaze
Split dough into halves(or thirds). Roll on plastic wrap into logs. Chill -Slice – Bake – Glaze. Line sheet with parchment paper. Bake at 350 for 12-15 min. Rotate sheet tray during baking.

Maple Glaze
3/4 cup confectionery sugar
3/4 cup pure maple syrup
Thin with hot water (if needed). Brush on cookies while still hot.

What changes I would make…
Thin the glaze for a hard finish.
Minis vs Bigs…Bigger is better in this cookie, a lot of work for such a small cookie.
Thinner vs thick…Thinner would be better. Crisp thin with light glaze.
Both of these above changes can be changed by the diameter of the cookie log and the thickness of the slice.

What I loved about this recipe…
Maple, Pecans,Shortbread-make a great combination!

Wow, again! This is the update about the online bake sale for Japan. I am honored and humbled to be part of this fund raising effort raising $8,269 converting into $82,000 worth of food at the Second Harvest in Japan. Random acts of baking kindness at their best. Love it! M

Thank you so much for you participation in the bake sale. Without you this never would have been possible.

While the events in Japan have been truly horrible, this has been one of the best experiences of my life.

While our original goal was only $2,500, our grand total so far is $8,269 and growing (yes growing).

I am inspired by your response, the love and support people have shown throughout this project.

With great warmth and gratitude,

Sabrina Modelle,

WOW!

WOW! A collective $5994 thanks for all those who participated in the online bake sale for Japan. An unbelievable response, the organizers were hoping for a $2500 for the food bank in Japan-they must be ecstatic about the response.
Kudos to thetomatotart.com for choosing the Second Harvest in Japan. For ever $100 donated, they donate $1,000 worth of food. That is one efficient non-profit! That would mean close to $60,000 worth of food donated to Japan from this online bake sale…This idea just keeps on getting cooler by the minute…WOW!

Congrats to them for all their hard work…m
